The Porter Report 2025 Summer Movie Season Preview
What’s going on, followers? It’s been too long. The clock is winding down on April, which means the ultimate silver screen party for cinephiles is on its way back. We will officially kick off the 2025 Summer Movie Season in just a few days. This year’s lineup promises to bring adrenaline-filled excitement, heart-warming emotion, and plenty of iconic moments you won’t find anywhere else. It won’t be long before we get things rolling, so let’s get a quick breakdown of everything coming our way during the 2025 Summer Movie Campaign.
Month 1 always gets the ball rolling in a big way, and this year is jam-packed to say the least. We open SMS 2025 with the close of Marvel Phase 5 with a group of unheroic heroes who you are definitely going to want to be familiar with heading into next year’s big “assembling”. Not long after, we will see the release of the next chapter in the premonition thriller franchise while we also say goodbye to one of the most beloved figures in horror. Memorial Day will definitely be one to remember as we witness the conclusion of the story of Ethan Hunt and the live-action return of Disney’s furry ball of chaos. Then, we close month one with some legends of the past coming together to shepherd a new generation of fighters. A loaded month to be sure, but a buffet of great stories that will get the season off to a great start.
Things really start to pick up as we enter the 2nd month of the season. The first film of June shows us that Mr. Wick isn’t the only assassin to be feared in the world of the Continental. On June 13th, we get to return to the island of Berk to witness the most unlikely friendship between man and beast in the live action adaptation of the classic Dreamworks masterpiece. The weekend of June 20th has 2 vastly different encounters with interesting individuals. One features a boy who fulfills his lifelong dream of beating people beyond the stars. On the other side, we have a father and a son having a “very different” close encounter with some individual that you really don’t want anywhere near you. We close out the month with Brad Pitt stepping behind the wheel in a high-octane thrill ride set in the world of Formula 1, and the most overprotective android on the planet brings her sadistic tendencies and “killer” dance moves in her next cinematic upgrade.
To say that Month 3 is massive is the understatement of the year. July always brings some heat, but the movies on tap for July this year will bring the summer to a fever pitch! Independence Day weekend will see us ushering in a new era in the Jurassic Park franchise. A few weeks later, another new era arrives as one of the most iconic superheroes in the history of DC Comics makes his return to the big screen. Finally, closing out the month, we will see the MCU welcoming a family of fantastic individuals into the heroverse in the opening film of Marvel Phase 6. This is one of the most explosive line-ups I’ve seen in a while for Month 3, so best believe it’s gonna be a cinematic showcase for the ages.
While the final month of the season closes the festivities, that doesn’t mean that the conclusion is any less exciting. The most lovable group of criminals return for an all-new heist that will take them to literal new heights. Then, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back for the ultimate switcharoo returns, and this time, they have a new twist. Finally, action and horror are the name of the game as a violent underdog returns to dish out some humble helpings of pain, and the final chapter of Ed and Lorraine Warren has them facing a threat that neither is prepared for. A solid collection of flicks to put the cap on what is sure to be an SMS to remember.
