The Porter Report 2025 Summer Movie Season - May Preview

What’s going on, followers, and welcome to The Porter Report Summer Movie Season May Preview. This year’s SMS kicks off in explosive fashion with a plethora of movies that are set to get the ball rolling for our 2025 campaign. Criminals, miscreants, near-death experiences, spies, and old-school mentors all take center stage in an opening month that is sure to be a perfect starter meal for our silver screen buffet. Let’s run down the menu of our cinematic helpings in our month one preview.

Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts*
 (Marvel Studios, May 2nd)

Nuts and Bolts

In a world still feeling the scars of Thanos’ purge of half the universe’s population, the severe lack of heroes who can potentially stand against the next big universal threat is a more pressing concern than ever before. While some have their own solutions, a new destructive force may call for an unorthodox “assembling” that no one is quite prepared for…especially the ones who ARE assembled. Marvel Phase 5 comes to a close in the film that sees the most unheroic collective of people taking on a force that will challenge them in ways none of them can foresee. But one thing is certain, they may not be heroes, they may not be super, but they are NOT giving up. The MCU’s most chaotic collaboration takes shape when Thunderbolts* arrives in theaters this Friday.

Karate Kid Legends
 (Columbia Pictures, May 30th)

The New Branch

Moving to a new city is always a stressful time for anyone. Moving there from another country only adds to those emotions. When one kid’s whole world is turned upside down, he leans into the only thing that brings him peace and joy… combat. That peace and joy is found few and far between, given his promise to never use the skills he’s perfected in this new setting. But when an opportunity comes to both stand his ground and further his passion, he leans on an old friend from back home as well as a local legend from his new home to craft a new legacy while building on the one he was raised on. The thrilling next chapter in the Karate Kid franchise brings two different generations together. Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio return as Mr Han and Daniel LaRusso as they honor the lessons and teachings of the late, great Mr. Miyagi in the form of training a brand new student who has the same fire in his eyes as they once did. Traditions clash and fists will fly in the Big Apple when Karate Kid Legends fights its way into theaters on May 30th
