2025 Summer Movie Season - Monthly Recap (June 2025)

The Porter Report 2025 SMS June Recap

Happy Monday, followers!!! We have officially reached the end of our second month of the summer movie season. The films that came out this month were incredibly exciting to watch, with so many offering great cinematic moments that possibly could set the bar for the remainder of the year. Our next month promises to be even better, but before we get to that, let’s officially put a cap on June in our latest monthly preview.

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina 4K Wallpaper

The John Wick series has some of the best-made action films in the genre. The brutality and artistry showcased in each installment truly show the imagination and attention to detail that goes in to crafting not just the action set pieces but the world and characters that inhabit it. Ballerina adds to that by using a new character within the universe to expand the mythology but also continue the legacy that has been a staple of the franchise since the beginning. Though it didn’t show in the box office, this killer addition to the series proves that this world of assassins is still worth checking out.

Live-action adaptations almost always get a bad rap. But if you get the right collection of talent to shepherd the story in the right way, it has the potential to be just as breathtaking and emotional as the original. How To Train Your Dragon took full advantage of showcasing this beloved tale in a new lens by maintaining everything that made the animated film so iconic while adding a grounded and gritty feel to the world in addition to adding some layers to characters that make them more fleshed out. A new generation now has the opportunity to grow with these characters in a whole new way without being robbed of what makes the world such a joy to get lost in.

Original movies are such a rare sight in modern Hollywood. The reliance on the familiar is a frustrating reality for those who demand originality in the industry. Ironic that those same detractors don’t seem to show up for the very thing they claim to care about. Elio might just be the latest victim in a line of original works that fall victim to the tragic fate of being a good movie that won’t have eyes on it. A story that asks the question if we are alone, but in a much deeper sense, Pixar’s latest work shows that the studio still has magic left in them, even if the audience seems far off in the distance.

The concept of a zombie apocalypse isn't new to moviegoers. But few have managed to truly capture the horrific terror and horror of being in the middle of what amounts to hell on earth. With 28 Years Later, Danny Boyle returned audiences to his twisted world of violence and lawlessness in the follow-up to the iconic horror thriller. A visceral experience for those who dare to brave a world consumed by bloodlust and carnage.

While the thought of an increase of AI integration in modern society is a topic that has some people on edge, the return of AI had people breaking out the welcome mat. Megan 2.0 switched things up a bit by pivoting away from its slasher origins for a more action-heavy romp that still has all the quick-witted charm, sass, and dance moves fans love. It may not be as big of a hit as its predecessor, but it’s a film that proves that this “doll” has plenty of moves up its sleeve

As one of the fastest-growing sports leagues on the planet, getting someone motivated to invest in the tension and genre of this brand of competitive racing is a tall task. But with the right crew, it can accomplish all that and more. Joseph Kosinski and company delivered a showstopper of a cinematic showcase of the world of Formula 1 behind the star power of Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, and a full-on commitment to realism and authenticity. The cinematic lens can do wonders for displaying the workings of a sport many are passionate about. All you need is the right person behind the wheel.
