2025 Summer Movie Season - Monthly Recap (August/September 2025)

The Porter Report 2025 SMS August/September Recap

Happy Monday, followers!!! We have officially reached the final month of the summer movie season. It's hard to believe that the season is over and we are days away from transitioning into our fall and winter movie slates. But before we get the ball rolling on that, let’s officially put a cap on month 4 in our latest monthly preview.

As a follow-up to the action-packed 2022 heist adventure, The Bad Guys 2 delivered another thrilling entry in the saga that saw them take their mayhem-infused escapades to literal new heights. Through a stellar cast of new and returning characters, this movie was a great summer romp that brought all the right things to the table in an installment that showcased why it is so good to be bad.

If you had told me that a legacy sequel to an early 2000s Disney movie was gonna be the most fun and heartwarmingly nostalgic experience in month 4, I would have told you to talk to the hand. But Freakier Friday brought the type of old-school style and flair that truly made those who grew up in the era feel like a kid again. A terrific showcase of the talent of both Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsey Lohan, Freakier Friday is a feel-good summer flick that did more than just switch things up. It reminded us that even though it may seem like a fool's errand, you truly never give up being young at heart.

It's never a good idea to bother somebody while they are on vacation. It's even worse when that somebody can brutally pack you up in the bloodiest way possible. Coming off the sleeper hit from a few years back, Bob Odenkirk delivered top-tier mayhem in the sequel that built on the established foundation, yet still added layers to the characters that inhabit the world. A fast-paced and explosive action thriller that teaches you to never underestimate the capabilities of someone you think doesn't have what it takes to stand up and throw down.

Few franchises have impacted the horror genre like James Wan's Conjuring series. The installments in the series have terrified viewers for years and have left an indelible mark on the genre as a whole. The final installment brought everything full circle as audiences witnessed the final case for Ed and Lorraine Warren before their inevitable retirement from paranormal intervention. A strong conclusion to a cinematic universe that shows that powerful interconnected storytelling is not confined to a single genre.
